Bahrain score upset win over New Delhi team

THE Bahrain Cricket Academy under-11 team returned to winning ways with an upset 11-run victory over Madanlal Cricket Academy, New Delhi, in the Gulf Cup Cricket Tournament at the Sharjah Stadium yesterday. The Delhi team went into yesterday's match after qualifying for tomorrow's finals by winning all the earlier four matches. In the other match of the day, Bahrain A team lost to DPS Sharjah by 57 runs. Batting first, the Bahrain team reached 139 for eight in 25 overs with Vigneshwaran (39) being the top scorer. Wicketkeeper Sankarsh Suresh (16 n o) was the other main scorer. The Delhi team started the chase well posting 40 runs for the first wicket. But Aditya Vaidyanathan dealt a double blow dismissing Chirag Suri (10) and Dashmesh Singh in the eighth over. Bahrain then wrapped up the remaining wickets with two run outs while wicket-keeper Sankarsh smartly stumped two batsmen off Ali Nadeem. Sankarsh was named man-of-the-match. With this victory, Bahrain are back in contention and their chances to play in the final depend on the result of today's final round robin match between DPS Sharjah and Insportz Green. A win for the latter would put DPS, Insportz Blues and Bahrain on equal points and the finalists will then be decided on net run rate. In the other match, Bahrain A restricted DPS to 122 for seven in 25 overs through some spirited bowling by Sujit Dhumale (3 for 25) and Joel George (2 for 10). However, Bahrain A, in reply, could only score 65 for eight in 25 overs with Aditya Bala (15) being the top scorer.
