Kidnapping of Dr. Verencar followed by death shocks residents of Port city of Vasco-da-Gama

The news of kidnapping of a prominent doctor cum politico (earlier MGP and now a Indian National Congress member and potential candidate for the Vasco da Gama Assembly Constituency) has shocked the citizenary of this Port Town.

As per unconfirmed reports Dr Verenkar who has a nursing cum maternity home in the heart of Vasco-da-Gama port city Ward No 10  behind the Damodar Temple  was on his usual morning walk along the Mangor Hill.

As he reached somewhere near the Ambabai Temple a resident of the area who wished Dr Verenkar suddenly noticed inmates of a red Maruti van had forcefully pulled him in the van and sped away.  It was a local baker on his morning sojourn who raised an  alarm and then his hospital and police were informed.

The news of kidnapping spread like wild fire office goers were engaged in animated discussions over the causes, etc., and a sense of fear gripped the elite community apprehending kidnappings for ransom a la Bihar or Mumbai style,

It is subsequently learnt that a body was found around 1000 hrs gagged and bruised by some youth playing cricket in the vicinity on the road just leading to the Cuelim hill where the feast of three kings is celebrated on 6th January. It is now confirmed that it is the body of Dr Verenkar.

While there is no conclusive evidence yet over the cause of the kidnapping resulting in death some grape vine point to a family feud involving a inter religious marital discord of a kin of Dr Verenkar.
Others attribute it to some political motives, or ransom or for dues. But many believe the killers could be from outstation.

He leaves behind his wife and two daughters one who is away from Goa.

Attempts to get clarification from Vasco-da-Gama and Verna Police station the jurisdiction of the kidnapping and death respectively have not yielded results owing to political overtones .

Considering the fact that otherwise the good Doctor had a large clientele (as there are just four such hospitals in Vasco da Gama)and commanded a good following with the masses being a political figure there is a total hush hush while the police are being pressed to book the culprits.

However owing to lack of evidence this case may as well end without any conviction because the general rate of convictions in criminal cases resulting in death is a mere 4% in India.

Meanwhile it is reliably learnt that the last rites will take place tommorrow or day after as atleast one next of kin is expected from outstation.

A large crowd of inquisitive passers bye residents of port town and clients of the late Dr Verenkar were seen at the Hospital awaiting the facts.
