MAPUSA, FEB 16, 2005 : -HERALD CORRESPONDENT � BJP President and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani has accused Governor S C Jamir of sabotaging democracy by ordering the dismissal of the Parrikar-led government, which had won the vote of confidence by 18-6 votes on the floor of the House. �The governor has misused the powers envisaged under Article 164 (4) of the constitution for dismissing the Parrikar government and this action will lay down a dangerous precedent in our democratic set-up,� said Mr Advani, addressing a largely attended public meeting at Mapusa on Wednesday evening. Accusing the Congress party of indulging in dirty politics, Mr Advani said the issue that needed to be viewed seriously following the unconstitutional dismissal of the Parrikar government was not relating much to the powers envisaged under Article 164 and Article 75 of the Constitution, but how much the Congress party that is ruling the nation was committed to democracy. Mr Advani claimed
that the Congress party had a history of subverting democracy. He said that the arrest of a senior political leader under MISA by the late Indira Gandhi in 1977 was a serious attack on democracy. While saying that the essential function of any political party was to win the confidence of the people, Mr Advani said that Mr Parrikar had proved his political aptitude of ruling the State with public support which earned him the distinction of being the best chief minister in India in 2002 by the India Today magazine. Charging the Congress party of being the source of corruption and illegalities, Mr Advani said the present ruling dispensation at the Centre led by the Congress has several leaders with criminal track records in the cabinet. He also accused the Congress party of promoting illegalities by seeking support of naxal groups like the PWG in Andhra Pradesh to defeat nationalist leaders Chandrababu Naidu. Speaking on his party�s hopes to get justice in the court of law following
the filing of writ petition before the Supreme Court challenging the governor�s dismissal of the Parrikar government, Mr Advani informed that his party would agitate the issue in the forthcoming budget session in the Parliament. Mr Advani was all in praise of UGDP MLA Mathany Saldanha for exhibiting his high political values of not succumbing to any pressure tactics to destabilise a popular government having a clear mandate of the people. In his address, former chief minister Manohar Parrikar dubbed the governor�s action of dismissing his government as highly deplorable and purely unconstitutional. He claimed that Governor S C Jamir had prepared the dismissal order a day prior to seeking a vote of confidence in the assembly. While expressing his displeasure over the series of cabinet decisions taken by the Rane government, he said that the present cabinet had no moral right to take any policy decisions, as Mr Rane was yet to prove his strength on the floor of the House. He said that
he had great hopes of succeeding in the Supreme Court. .
