Registrations for admission have begun at the Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) which is due to open in April. The office of the new school is presently operating from the Cambridge Girls School, situated behind the Regency Hall near the Mall Roundabout, a school official said. The Doha Modern Indian School the latest to join the Indian education scenario in Qatar has a custom-built structure located in the Abu Hamour area. A joint venture between the Global Education Management Systems (GEMS) of the well-known Varkey Group based in Dubai and the Doha-based Taleb Group, the Doha Modern Indian School offers unique features, the schools director, Jayshankar Pillai said. In Qatar, the group has opened four schools of which two are in the Al Khor Community. The others are the Cambridge School and Cambridge Girls School. Totally committed to helping children realise
their potential in all aspects of life, they have a thoroughly holistic approach to learning, which provides the skills, ethics and confidence a child needs to grow into an exceptional adult, Pillai said. The academic year 2005-06 may be the schools first but backed up by the professional expertise of GEMS and spearheaded by the experienced skills of Education Adviser Esme Vaz, it has an unmistakable head start over any other school. Vaz has been at the helm of various schools for the past 22 years of her career. According to Pillai, the DMIS is a school with a difference because of its unique facility of Day Boarding from Grade 3. The system incorporates academics in the morning session followed by lunch and the afternoon self- improvement programme that includes a supervised study session and extracurricular activities. For lunch, wholesome and nourishing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is served. Table etiquette will be inculcated
into the students as the principal and the teaching faculty will dine with them. The children in the KG and Grades 1 and 2 can opt for the crche facilities. These children will be in the care of a trained teacher assisted by an attendant. Fun-filled and stimulating activities will be organised. No effort and expenditure have been spared to provide modern, state-of-the-art facilities and resources to foster all-round learning through curricular and extracurricular activities. Some of the facilities in the school include a multi-purpose hall, junior and senior libraries, exploration rooms, fully equipped general science lab, KG play area, separate rooms for performing and visual arts like music, dance, drama, public speaking, quizzing, creative writing, art and crafts. The school will have up-to-date sporting arenas and a technologically advanced multimedia centre. The faculty consists of qualified and experienced personnel. Some of the major oil companies like Qatar
Petroleum have already added the school to their list of approved institutions with regard to providing educational assistance to their employees children, he said. The school will be affiliated to the CBSE, New Delhi, and will prepare students for the All-India Secondary School Examination of the board at the end of Grade 10 and the All-India Senior School Certificate Examination of the same board at the end of Grade 12.
