[India News]: Panaji, March 4 : Congress Chief Minister Pratapsing Rane Friday won the vote of confidence in the evenly divided Goa assembly after pro-tem Speaker Francisco Sardinha cast his deciding vote.
Sardinha earlier restrained United Goans Democratic Party's (UGDP) Matanhy Saldanha from participating in the vote.
The UGDP had filed a disqualification petition against its lone legislator for disobeying a party fiat to vote in favour of the Congress-led alliance.
Saldanha's 'non vote' swung the balance, as the Congress and BJP had both claimed 17 MLAs each in the 40-seat assembly.
