Welcome to the Goa Maritime Museum. This site has come about as a memorial to
the hundreds of Goan seamen who have served on ships under many flags, in peace
and in war, and who continue to seek the opportunities of a life on the high
seas. The site is a particular memorial to the hundreds of Goan sailors who
died in the two World Wars and are barely remembered in Europe or Asia.

For the families and friends that never knew the nature by which these men met
their ends in watery graves, may this serve as a monument.

ABOUT THE 'GOA MARITIME MUSEUM' MAILING LIST

The THE 'GOA MARITIME MUSEUM' is a list to discuss plans to build a
initially-cyber maritime museum for Goa, and later to possibly look at a more
ambitious brick-and-motar project. This venture has been undertaken at the
initiative of Melvyn Misquita (Goa) and Cliff J Pereira (London).

You're welcome to discuss anything on this list, related to centuries back or
the 20th century or even yesterday. Provided it has some link with Goa and the
maritime world. Photographs linked to the maritime history of Goa and Goans are
particularly welcome.

If anyone knows of any artefacts of any sort in Goa which need to be
photographed, or documents/photos that need to be scanned, this group's
founder-member Cecil Pinto has volunteered to arrange for the photographing or
scanning to be done at a mutually convenient date.

Other founder-members of this network are Dr Delio Mendonca, sj, Mario Alvares,
and Frederick Noronha. Goa is a small region on the west coast of India, a
former Portuguese colony with a long and surprising maritime history.
