| MINIMAL ACCESS SURGERY UNITS TO BE SET UP IN ALL GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS IN THE COUNTRY

| The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. A Ramadoss today announced that Minimal Access Surgery Units will be set up in all government hospitals across the country. The first such unit will be set up in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) soon. He was speaking at the inaugural function of International Conference on Minimal Access Surgery here today. The Minister said that this new subject of non-invasive surgery would be included in the medical curriculum soon. He stressed the need for adequate training in this regard and said that there was a need to take this innovative surgery which involved less blood loss, less hospital stay and most cost effective method specially in rural areas in the country. He said that Government would take up training in this non-invasive surgery along with the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India. Speaking earlier, the President of the National Board of Examinations, Prof. Rajasekharan warned that proper training would be required for taking up this new innovative method. He said that training should be imparted not only to young surgeons but also the more experienced surgeons. He warned the young enthusiastic surgeons to be careful while undertaking the surgical procedure to avoid post-operative complications. More than 3000 delegates from India and abroad are attending this first-ever Minimal Access Surgery Conference to be held in India. The Conference will continue for two more days.
