Today is Palm Sunday also called 'Rama Aitar' in Konkani...
Rama is supposed to be the tender palm leaf....Years back each and
every Christian household used to carry the tender palm to the
Church.
The Palm was then blessed by the priest during the mass. As kids
we used to make crosses and shape of rib cage of the palm leaves and
it was always kept near the Alter. This Palm was considered Holy
and a was kept near the bed of sick in the family.

Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday occurs the Sunday before Easter Sunday in the Western
Christian religious calendar year. It signals the upcoming end of
Lent and the beginning of the holy week of Easter. The day
commemorates the spreading of palms and clothing in Jesus' path as He
entered Jerusalem prior to His crucifixion.
