Canacona Move To Second Place
A superb hatrick from Denzil Fernandes against Verna helped Canacona to move to second place in the Bahrain Goans Seven-a-side Football League for Father Felicio Diniz Trophy. In the match played at Al Qadisiya ground Salmaniya, Wincy Fernandes of Verna dodged past a host of rival defenders and scored a consolation goal to end the match 3 - 1. Verna are placed seventh on the league table.
In the other match, bottom placed Margao put up a much improved performance compared to their earlier outings and held Chinchinim to a goalless draw till the breather. In the second half Chinchinim scored through Savio Da Silva and Jimson D�Costa to stay in fifth place.
At the East Riffa open grounds, league leaders Navelim preserved their record of winning every match in the league defeating Benaulim 2 - 1. Benaulim took the early lead through Tony Fernandes to put Navelim under presure. Melroy Rebello equalised in the second half and former Churchill Bros.(Goa) player Cirilo Barretto who was impressive with his feeding and probing scored the match winner. With this loss Benaulim slipped to third position on the league table.
In the match between Vasco and Tivim, Anthony Fernandes scored twice and Joao Baptista added one to give Vasco a 3 - 0 victory, that moved them up to the fourth place.Tivim are seventh on the table.
In the last round of the 1st leg, Navelim will play Canacona at Al Qadisiya ground on Wednesday at 7.45 p.m followed by Tivim v/s Chinchinim.
