CMM Group founder chief passes away NT Staff Reporter Panaji May 29: The founder chairman of the CMM Group of Companies, Pascoal Jose Menezes died after a brief illness at his Altinho residence here this afternoon. He was 95 and is survived by three sons and three daughters.
The funeral procession will leave his residence at Altinho, here on Wednesday, June 1, family members informed. A pioneer in establishing industries, especially pharmaceuticals and cosmetics in Goa, Menezes joined his father's trading company in 1926 at the age of 16. Before liberation, his father late Cosme Matias Menezes had established a business company trading in imported goods. After joining the family business, Menezes, who was affectionately known as `PJ' initially started three factories by establishing a mini-industrial estate at Curti, Ponda in 1963. Besides, he took interest and expanded his family trading business. He was also a pioneer in establishing a polyclinic in Panaji. Presently, the CMM Group has offices all over the country. Known for his integrity and honesty, Menezes was a man of vision and was the son of the soil in the true sense of the word. His large- hearted nature and hard work has helped him build an empire for the state. He always had the interest of Goa and Goans at heart. Widely travelled across the world, Menezes established the Cosme Matias Menezes Memorial Trust and Pascoal and Maria Menezes Benevolent Foundation for doing charity and extending a helping hand to the poor and downtrodden.
