Panaji/Margao, May 30: A 12-year old girl, Tashim Zamkandi died on the spot and two other children were injured when lightening struck their one-room house at Pazorkoni, Cuncolim, as pre-monsoon showers lashed the state today evening. The children were alone at home when lightening struck their house. When the parents arrived at home, they rushed to a nearby hospital where Tashim was declared brought dead.
The two injured, Sadik (5) and Musim (8) were shifted to Hospicio and later to GMC, Bambolim, due to their critical condition. The showers accompanied by thunder and lightening plunged most of the areas of the city under darkness. The Goa Fire and Emergency Services remained busy clearing the road, at Miramar and Taleigao, of trees that had fallen due to the showers. The acting director of India Meteorological Observatory, Mr K V Singh disclosed that the observatory has recorded 30.2 mm of rainfall.
Mr Singh said that the monsoon has reached Andaman, but was yet to reach the Kerala. It will take at least a week to hit Goan coasts, he added.Mr Singh informed that the pre-monsoon showers are likely to hit tomorrow. Rains played spoilsport not only to the campaigning, but also left the office-goers stranded at several places across the state without raincoats and umbrellas. Public transport also added to the mess with traffic moving slowly due to the showers. Gutters were seen overflowing and some areas were also filled with knee-deep water.
