The state government plans to refurbish the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim by spending over Rs 5 crore shortly and directed the concerned authorities to prepare an estimate of repairs, painting and replacement of some medical equipment so as to improve the facilities and thereby cater to the needs of the patients in a better way.
The Chief Minister, Mr Pratapsingh Rane made a surprise visit to the GMC this evening and inspected every ward and department along with the medical superintendent, Dr Rajan Kunkolienkar. Mr Rane went around the hospital and met the patients and relatives and heard their difficulties for over two hours. Mr Rane, who presently holds the health portfolio told The Navhind Times that the GMC needs thorough refurbishing and added that he was shocked to see the condition of the hospital, especially the ceilings and the doors.
The government proposed to create a place for the patients' relatives in the GMC complex which, he said was the need for a long time. The government also plans to slash the registration fee by 50 per cent and reduce it from Rs 20 to Rs 10 with immediate effect,
Mr Rane informed. The fee was increased from Rs 5 to Rs 20 two years back.
Mr Rane said he visited the ICU, CCU and ICCU and found that there were no proper ventilators. The ICU needs at least 15 ventilators, but presently there are only eight, Mr Rane said and added that he had directed immediate installation of required ventilators.
The Chief Minister said he would make the provision of required fund in the budget for refurbishing the hospital or else make special funds available for the job.
Mr Rane said that he had directed cleaning of the hospital surrounding, where he had seen stray dogs loitering in the hospital campus. He said his government would work to give
good ambience to the hospital complex.
Besides, Mr Rane said there was need to increase the haemodialysis machine in the kidney department and accordingly the government has proposed to increase these machines to cater to the growing needs of the patients.
Asked whether the government plans to install super-facilities at the GMC, Mr Rane said the government firmly believes in introducing super-facilities at the GMC. He said the government
plans to upgrade the hospital with the installation of super-facilities. Mr Rane also visited service areas including kitchen, laundry and the central sterile supply bureau (CSSB). He also visited the casualty and trauma and unit.
