| Bahrain welcomes superstar Jackson | |||
MANAMA Bahrain is delighted to welcome pop superstar Michael Jackson, officials and fans declared yesterday. He is here as a private guest of Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to "rest, relax and spend time with long-standing friends", said sources. "We are delighted to have him here. He has good friends here who have known him a long time. "He has given a great deal to the world through his music and we are happy to offer him Bahrain's hospitality." This is Mr Jackson's first visit to Bahrain, though he has strong connections with the country, said sources. His brother Jermaine also has strong links with Bahrain and is a regular visitor. The pop icon, idolised by millions the world over, chose Bahrain for his first trip outside the US for some time so he could relax among friends, said sources. "He didn't want to go anywhere else, he came straight here," they said. He is here alone and is expected to stay for a week to 10 days. Fans were delighted after yesterday's GDN report that he was here and have been spreading the news with thousands of text messages. "I want to see him and give him a hug," said one fan, echoing the sentiments of thousands. |
