Poet makes music debut

BAHRAIN-based Goan writer and poet Pio Fernandes will officially release his debut music album tomorrow at the Konkan Singers Club, Manama. "Tum Ostore" (You Woman) features 12 original songs by Pio and sung by a number of seasoned Indian artists from Goa and Bahrain. The artists include Young Chico, Wilmix and Sharon, F X Pereira, Anthony Miranda, Ruzai Camilo, Benny Fernandes, Joao De Zuari, Rosy Alvares, Xavier Gomes, Anthony Miranda and Jesba. Music accompaniment is provided by Carlito Fernandes, who was a trumpet player with the award-winning Bahrain Police Band for over 30 years. Carlito is now retired and has been living in his native Goa for the last two years. "This album is a dream come true," said Pio, a Bahrain resident for over 15 years. "The songs are in Konkani, the language in Goa, but even non-Konkanis can enjoy the album as music is universal." Before coming to Bahrain, where he lives with his wife Eunice and their children Ananika and Nikil, Pio worked as a radio artist in Goa for over 20 years. "Tum Ostore" will be available for BD1.500 at La Ferns Restaurant, Manama. The launch tomorrow will begin at 8.30pm. It is open to Konkan Singers Club members and their guests.
