Jessy elected sarpanch of Velim
Margao Aug 22: In the by-election held for panchayats in two villages of Salcete taluka Velim and Curtorim, yesterday, Ms Jessy Jacinto Cardozo and Mr Milagres Benedicto Rodrigues were declared elected respectively. The Salcete mamlatdar, Mr Johnson Fernandes was the presiding officer for the by-election. According to information made available, Ms Cardozo drew 123 votes against her rival, Ms Bibiana Precy Cardozo, who gained only 4 votes. In Curtorim, Mr Rodrigues managed to garner 445 votes against Mr Consescao Santan Dias, who pulled only 131 votes. Here six votes were rejected while in Velim 13 votes were rejected.
In Quepem, village panchayat of Balli, Adnnem, Mr Ulhas Malu Velip defeated his rival, Mr Vishnu Bikaro Deikar by just 3 votes. Mr Velip polled 139 votes whereas Mr Deikar gained 136 votes. There were four candidates in the fray for a single seat, sources in the Quepem mamlatdar office revealed. It may be recalled that there were elections in four village panchayats of Salcete taluka. Mr Anil Minino Fernandes of Paroda and Mr Antonio Judy Sebastao of Verna were declared elected unopposed before the election date.
Gabriel elected sarpanch of Chicola
Vasco Aug 22: In the by-election of village panchayat of Chicola, Bogmalo, Mr Gabriel John DCruz was declared elected. The counting of votes was held at the Mormugao mamlatdar office this morning. Mr DCruz polled 110 votes while his rivals, Mr Norberto Antonio Alvares and Mr James Cosme Alvares drew 50 and 6 votes respectively. The Mormugao mamlatdar, Mr Bhushan Savoikar was the presiding officer for the election.
