My dear Friends,
I must say, that when I started this website, I
never thought it would generate so much interest. In fact there is
no other site that is dedicated to this region, which has so many beautiful and
tasty dishes. Mangaloreans and Goans believe taste is more
important, and no wonder they have coined so many varieties from so few
ingredients !
Our parents, had to sit in the kitchen and grind
masalas on the grinding stones and cook in mud pots on stoves which used
firewood. In the rainy season, it was very difficult to keep the
kitchen fire burning, and they had to blow air through round metal
cylinders. The water was drawn from wells. In spite of
all this when September 8 came, they celebrated the feast of the Nativity of our
Lady, with so many vegetable dishes ! It was because our mothers
loved their families, and their children as God given gifts.
I do not want to compare with life
today. People would prefer to place orders with some caterers and
have parties. Once in a way, try the joy of turning out a dish and
eventually practice will make it easy. Cooking is an art, like
painting or music. Think of it as such, and let go your hidden
talents. They are just waiting to be explored. Today, we
do not have the difficulties our parents had, but TIME that is
another matter. Read some books on Time-Management.
I take this opportunity to thank all of you who
remembered me in your prayers when I had my operation. Please continue to
do so. I would like some of you who are good at writing
to offer some articles for Around The World for October to December.
Please try as it will reduce my burden of typing with one hand and the other
just recovering. Can you? Would be so grateful if we could make this
site into a Family Site of people of this region.
