DKA Executive members met Mr. Luizinho
Faleiro Minister for Education Govt of Goa at
Secretariat, Panaji and submitted to him a few demands
of DKA and sought financial assistance for DKA. He
promised to help.

TSKK wrote a letter to Mr. Pratapsingh Raoji
Rane,INC MLA Poriem Sattari GKA the Chief Minister
of Goa to appoint the President, of Goa Konkani
Akademi by turn i.e from Roman and Devanagari groups
to ensure proper representation of both sections.
(This is an autonomous body whose present term ends in
November 2005 and was hitherto promoting mainly
Konknni in Devanagari script current President is ex
Convenor or Konkani Porjecho Avaz Mr Pundalik Naik

DKA executive members met Mr. Luizinho Faleiro
Minister for Education Govt of Goa at his residence to
request him for office space to DKA. He assured help.

Public meeting at Grace Church Hall, Margão to discuss
issues related to Roman script. During the meeting Fr.
Pratap Naik proposed 12 points of action for Roman
script. At the end of the meeting 13 resolutions were
unanimously passed. It was decided to send these
resolutions to all MLAs and MPs
of Goa.

DKA Executive members met Dr. Wilfred de
Souza Nationalist Congress party MLA and Deputy Chief
Minister of Goa at his residence and submitted the
memorandum. Dr. Souza expressed uncertainity on
amending the Act, but was ready to support other
demands of roman script movement.

DKA organized a function at Grace churchHall to
release
"TSKK Romi Lipi booklet". Mr. Ulhas Buyao was the
chief guest. He said that "the Catholiccommunity made
a mistake by forgoing their right to use of Roman
script during the language agitation.
Email campaign by way of letters to Chief Minister of
Goa and Mr Luizinho Faleiro Minister for Education was
initiated by Mr Godfrey Gonsalves, social activist and
Fr Pratap Naik SJ Director of TSKK to solicit support
for Roman script Konkani movment. 88 emails were
received including one from the Bishop of Pune India
and they now constitute the CORE GROUP OF THE MOVEMENT
FOR ROMA SCRIPT.

DKA President, posted DKA memorandum to 36 MLAs and 3
MPs of Goa. DKA organized a programme at
Majorda on the occasion of World Konkani Day (i.e day
Konkani included in VIII Schedule of Constitution .
Adv Mike Mehta, emminent lawyer, writer and tiatrist
supported the demand for appropriate status for Roman
script.
Mr Godfrey Gonsalves social activist attended the
function of Goa Konkani Academy and purused the issue
re: step motherly treatment to Roman script Konkani
and 13 demands of DKA with Mr Pundalik Naik (not
Nayak) President of Goa Konknni Akademy.

DKA met the Chief Minister Mr Pratapsing Raoji Rane
at Goa Assembly complex and submitted to him a
memorandum. He was of the opinion that prior approval
of the Congress High Command was necessary given the
coalition status of the Government

DKA Executive members met Mr. Eduardo
Faleiro ex INC MP Rajya Sabha at his residence at
Raia. He fully supported Roman Script Movement . Same
day DKA members met Mr. Aleixo Sequeira INC MLA
Loutolim at his residence. He too promised his full
support.

DKA Executive members approved the name
Romi Lipiyecho Avaz (RLA) for the Roman script
movement. Mr Cosma Fernandes of DKA pursued the issue
for demand of Konkani in Roman script with Mr
Jeetendra Deshprabhu INC MLA Pernem and Mr Godfrey
Gonsalves social activist met a number of MLAs of the
ruling and the Opposition parties amongst them being
Ms Victoria Fernandes Congress INC MLA Santa Cruz
Deputy Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly and Mr
Jeetendra Deshprabhu MLA Pernem. Leader of the
Opposition Mr Manohar Parrikar BJP MLA Panaji, besides
Mr Mathany Saldanha UGDP MLA Cortalim and demanded to
take up the issue of Roman script during the budget
session of the Goa Legislative Assembly either by a
"calling attention motion" or at "zero hour" or during
debate on demands for grants for Official Language. Mr
Francis D Souza BJP MLA Mapusa assured to introduce an
amendment to the Official Language Act 1987 as desired
in the forthcoming session of the Goa
Legislative Assembly, in December 2005 or January 2006
Mr Radharao Gracias ex Independent MLA
Loutolim,expresses to Mr Godfrey Gonsalves support for
Roman script and presents his 1994 Private members
Bill which was rejected by voice vote by INC MLA's

Mr. Jeetendra Deshprabhu INC MLA Pernem took up the
issue of Roman script during discusion on demands for
official language duly supported by Ms Victoria
Fernandes, INC MLA and Deputy Speaker. Replying to the
debate later Chief Minister Mr Pratapsing Raoji Rane
assured full support for Roman script writers and
literary works etc.
Fr. Vasco do Rego, S.J. ex Loyola High School Bom
Jesus Basilica Old Goa has written a letter to
Archbishop of Goa & Daman His Grace Filipe Neri to
intervene immediately and to render justice to Roman
script.

new Managing Committee of DKA was
constituted unopposed. President: Mr. Wilson
Mazarello, Representatives of four
institutions have been "nominated"as members of
Managing Committee: Kala Mogi, Candolim, Konkani
Non-Stop Tiatristanchi Sonvstha, Margão, V. Ixtt,
Pilar and TSKK, Porvorim.

Fr Pratap Naik and Mr Godfrey Gonsalves
met Deputy Speaker Goa Legislative Assembly Mrs
Victoria Fernandes and requested her to mobilse
further support for the amendment to the Official
Language Act, 1987. An email letter thanking
the Chief Minister of Goa for his assurances on the
floor of the Goa Legislative Assembly alongwith a
fresh 10 point demands was sent to him.

at 307 Cidade de Goa ,Dona Paula and

High Commands direction to the Chief Minister to take
up the issue of amendment to the Official language Act
1987 At the Chief Minister's office a similar letter
and 10 point memorandum was submitted

OUR LEGITIMATE AND LONG DENIED DEMANDS TO THE GOA
GOVERNMENT
1. should give equal and official status to Konkani
written in Devanagari and Roman scripts. Amend the
Official Language Act,1987 2(c):"Konkani language"
means Konkani language in Devanagari and Roman
scripts;
2 should appoint the President of Goa Konkani
Akademi from both Roman & Devanagari script groups by
turns;
3. should give equal representation to the three
nominees of Goa Government in Goa Konkani Akademi,
from amongst eminent persons of both Devanagari and
Roman scripts;
4. should direct Kala Akademi to give awards to
Konkani Roman script writers, and extend to them all
other projects and schemes as given to Devanagari;
5. should direct Kala Akademi to consider Konkani
Roman script writers for "Gomantak Sharada Puroskar
";
6. should direct Kala Akademi to promote cultural
forms of Roman script Konkani viz; mandos, dekhnis,
cantaram, khell, non stop khell tiatrs etc;
7. should name new theatre for the performing arts in
Fatorda in honour of Late João Agostinho Fernandes,
popularly known as "Pai Tiatrist";
8 should direct its Departments to ensure that
whenever they publish Konkani books they should do so
in both Devanagari and Roman scripts.
9. should direct the Department of Education to
include Konkani in Devanagari and Roman scripts in the
education system from primary school to University;
10 while shortlisting three names for
representation for the lone nominee in the Sahitya
Akademi, New Delhi, should ensure that writers from
Roman and Devanagari scripts are selected by turns.
Now that the movement is in full swing there is an
unanimous demand from all the supporters of Konkani in
Roman script
a) all SUPPORTERS OF THIS MOVEMENT should immediately
resign from the GOA KONKANI AKADEMY as they are unable
to extend any support for KONKANI IN ROMAN SCRIPT;
b) all SUPPORTERS OF THIS MOVEMENT should re-consider
participation in the KALA ACADEMY organised 31st Tiatr
Competition 2005-06 being held from 15 Sept 2005 to
5th October 2005 for being given meted step-motherly
treatment by Goa Government;
c)Mandos,dekhnis, non stop, dramas teatros should NOT
be staged for Government functions viz visiting
dignitaries and cultural programmes IFFI etc unless
Roman script is treated on par with Devanagari
d) DALGADO KONKNNI ACADEMY AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS
SYMPATHETIC TO BOTH DEVANAGARI AND ROMAN SCRIPT AND
INDUSTRIALISTS should in the meanwhile solicit prize
money AND ORGANISING EXPENSES from Goans worldwide to
hosts such competitions instead.
e) GOA SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ASSOCIATION which organises
the MANDO FESTIVAL in November December should not
accept Government "DOLES" OR "PRIZES IN CASH" from
politicians
f POLITICIANS should invariably speak in the official
language at all public and Government function. (This
is a clear warning to them -- because in the just
concluded Assembly session the ruling front was mostly
speaking in English in full glare of the Cable TV
Networks but knowing well that their constituents
would not understand the debate)
g) Periodicals like GULAB, V IXTT DOR MHOINEACHI ROTTI
JIVITACHO PROKAS AMCHOI DEVADHORM GOAN REVIEW CINE
TIMES should increase their circulation by demanding
the Goa Government to purchase these magazines for
Libraries run by Village Panchayats and other
institutions
h) all supporters of this movement should ensure that
ENGLISH MASSES are discontinued from all Churches in
VILLAGES and in CITIES demand that same SHOULD BE
RESTRICTED TO JUST ONE PREFERABLY IN THE EVENING
INITIALLY and ultimately phased out - CHURCH
LITURGICAL DOCUMENTS MAGAZINES RENOVACAO SHOULD HAVE
BOTH KONKANI IN ROMAN AND ENGLISH CONTENTS OR
EXCLUSIVELY ROMAN. PRIESTS SHOULD SAY THE MASS IN
KONKANI ( let those who desire provide the english
translation as done by Pota fathers and other lay
christian movements )

j) UNITY IS LANGUAGE - KONKANI - DIVERSITY IN SCRIPTS
Article 29 of the Constitution and 357 Powers of the
President of India are being pursued to ensure that
justice is done to the cause of the Catholics.
