There will be a meeting of all Pastoral Helpers on Friday September 23, 2005 after the 9.00 a.m. Mass in the Upper Room at the Holy Family Cathedral. 3. The Salmiya Youth Group
will be inaugurated on Saturday October 1, 2005 after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. All
youth from the age group 16 to 30 are invited to attend and
register themselves. 4. As of Friday September 23, 2005, there
will be an additional weekly Mass in English at 7.30 a.m. at

We rightly rejoice in our friends and thank our Father for giving us strong and lasting relationships. It is a wonderful gift to be able to be open and honest with another person and know that our confidences will be respected and kept safe. with whom we can share the secrets of our inmost heart. Scriptures however also cautions us to take care in our choice of friends. Many on the surface appear trustworthy and loyal but quickly turn out to be fair-weather friends when difficulties arise. Some seek friendship to meet their own needs, being more interested in receiving than in giving. Thankfully, on the other hand, there are those who put a high value on sustaining deep and trusting relationships over a lifetime. Wonderful as our friends are, and however important they may be to us, we can never have a friend who is as close to us as Jesus Christ Jesus loves us with a love beyond description. He longs for us to open our inmost soul and to share with Him the secrets of our heart. When in trouble, He will never desert us; He will never drive away anyone who comes to Him (John 6:37); no one can snatch us out of His hand (John 10:28). If we have come to know Jesus as a friend, then we have found a rare treasure. To know His presence in the heart and hear His voice in the soul is something beyond price, it is life itself. 'This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent' (John 17:3) Having found this treasure, this pearl of great price, and knowing the indwelling closeness of the Lord Jesus, we receive a power that enables us to reach out to others. Many people have no friends and are desperately lonely. Jesus calls us to die to ourselves and show His sacrificial love to our many marginalized brothers and sisters. 'Lord Jesus, You are our closest friend. Nothing can separate us from Your love.
