Generosity is a virtue which Goans have in plenty. Goans have been generous hosts to many. Goan generosity has been taken undue advantage by many down the line. One such person, former footballer Abol Khosgavar has been using the generous nature of the wiling Goans for ulterior purposes, purposes to derive his pound of flesh (cash) from his former colleagues, current coaches, players and friends alike.

He came to play football in
India a long time back. He stayed back after having quit football. Iran is the country from where he came  from. Jamshed Nasiri, Majid Bhaskar were some of the illustrious footballers of yore who came to India from Iran. They played the game with dignity and passion, and won the hearts of the football lovers, football lovers spread over a spectrum of India - from Kolkotta to Goa. That was in the early 80’s.

On the scene then came Abol Khosgavar - from Dhaka Mohd Sporting to Mohd Sporting, Kolkotta. And from there on to Salgoacar Sports Club in
Goa
. He then shifted between Churchill Bros and ended his career with now defunct Anderson Marine Sports Club.
The lanky mid-fielder quit football in mid 90’s That was the last one heard of him on the football field.
His story is a story of squandering all when the fads of currency notes flowed in his hands, currency which he spent on vices which ranged from dope to other pleasures.

He is now penniless, penniless on account of his own undoing. Penniless from mid 90’s till date. He pleads from his fellow players of yester years and is often seen outside the dressing rooms of teams, the venue may change from Fatorda, Varca and / even Tilak, Vasco. The story is the same - at the end of the match, Khosgavar approaches coaches players for money.
His former colleagues will vouch for the facts and the current players would be a testimony to his demands of cash. He stays put at Fatorda close to the Nehru stadium.

During the NFL encounters visiting teams, had, on a few occasions turned him away from the dressing room door as the 50 year old approached the NFL clubs for money.
Now Khosgavar will be at it again as the Federation Cup is slotted for October. He has gained the confidence of the security personnel to pass through the security cordon at Nehru stadium to approach dressing rooms of teams at Nehru stadium, Fatorda.

Recently he visited one of his former colleague from Salgaoar at Majorda asking for money. The former Salgaocar striker had just returned from abroad.
“We have our set of troubles and we have worked hard in life and continue to do so. We use to earn much less than him while at Salgoacar, he squandered it all... that was his fault. We have helped him earlier. How long can this continue. There is a limit.” An agitated former teammate said, a teammate who did not wish that his name go in print.

Some officials of clubs where he played lamented that a certain section of the press  has been hyping the Khosgavar story. “We have paid him his money when he played. It is none of our business if he has burnt all his cash on his vices. Did we suggest him all the vices?” Questioned the official in a sarcastic tone, views which found echoes at other clubs too where he played.
Goan club coaches too have to endure to the demands of Khosgavar and the demands strut from Rs.100 onwards.

Jamshed Nasiri has gone on to coach some of the top clubs but Khosgavar wanted things easy, he did not wish to go into coaching either.  Then there was a hurdle. No one trusted him. No one wanted a disgraceful and notorious character to influence the team. So it was a perfect ‘No’ and the door closing on his face when it came to coaching.
