Goa: Two-day State-level Youth Festival Held to Promote Rich Folk Art among Youth

Margao, Oct 6: With a view to boosting the Goan rich folk art among today's generation, Directorate of sports and youth affairs organized a two-day state-level youth festival for south district in the Gomant Vidya Niketan hall, Margao.
Through this festival some of the groups are selected for finals, after which the winning group of finals will get an opportunity to perform at the national-level youth festival to be held in next month. Through this National level youth festival, the artistes get to understand other states' culture while promoting their own.

The motive behind such festivals is to spread a message of state's traditional culture, folk art. In this era of 'remixes', all are being attracted towards the western culture. Though they may go for western tastes, even then they should not forget their own culture.
The festival elicited very good response. About a dozen colleges participated in this festival with their groups and performed folk dance called 'Talgadi' and some more forms of art which are on the verge of extinction. These cultural groups are putting in their efforts to preserve them. Here at this function a group from Barshem-Kepem showcased their talent through this 'Talgadi' folk dance with colourful costumes. 
When contacted, some of these artistes said that they loved their traditional folk dances and songs and they would always try to preserve them for the future generartions. They would not let their culture to undego extinction.. 
A very popular song penned by well-known writer and advocate Uday Bhembre called 'Maddachcea Saullent', some dulpods and folk songs were sung by the participants.
