Mangalore, Oct 10: Mandd Sobhan proudly presented The Lorna Show at the newly built Milagres Hall Complex, near Milagres Church, on 9th of October at 6 pm. This program was a fabulous hit with Goan Songs, Goan Artistes, Goan Jokes and typical Goan evening. Mandd Sobhan has launched kalaangann.com website, release of Sodh Top 10 VCD and Songs book of Mandd Sobhann to it’s credit.

Tickets of the show were sold out before 24 hours and Milagres Hall Complex was filed with Konkani music lovers, who were eager to see the Lorna show for a long time. Lorna came on stage sporting an elegant black dress. The crowd went delirious when she started the concert with a soulful rendition of her number from her album ‘Hello Lorna’.

Lorna performed many songs which included super-hits like ‘Lisboa’, ‘Yo Bailey o’, ‘Pisso’, ‘Bebdo’ and ‘Corun Cantaram’ and so on, much to the sheer delight and joy of the capacity crowd that packed the hall. Music of the show was rendered by Norman Cardozo

Not many people know that Lorna is basically a jazz singer. Born into a pedigree Cordeiro family in Saligao, on 9th august 1946, to Cecila and Theophillus, in a palatial Goan heritage house, Lorna grew up on the music of Ela Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Louis Armstrong. Lorna started singing when she was 15, with Chris Perry, who had a keen eye for talent. On stage the two were in perfect sync. She was his muse and he, her guru. During the 9 years that they played together, their music didn’t fail to touch a chord, in every Goan heart. Then suddenly, by a strange twist of fate, Goas best known musical partnership ended in 1974. Chris Perry continued to compose amazing songs after that. Yet, he could not find another singer to deliver them the way Lorna had.

Finally, in December 1995, almost 25 years after she had became a musical recluse; Lorna made her grand come back with the launch of her Album Hello Lorna. Her comeback performance at the Goan Food and Cultural Festival at Miramar beach that year witnessed a record crowd, with traffic driving into Panjim from all directions, bumper to bumper. Hello Lorna remains her best post-comeback album to date. The rest is history.

Lorna has now sung in almost all of the Gulf Countries, Paris, London, Paris and Canada. Besides singing for Goans, Lorna also got a chance to sing at the jazz clubs in these countries.

During the interval of the show Lorna launched the website www.kalaangann.com and Steven Dias, Customs Officer released the VCD’s of ‘Sodh Top 10’ show conducted on 2nd October, 2005 at Kalaangann. Songs book of Mandd Sobhann was released by Lorna. Louis J. Pinto, President of Mandd Sobhann and Eric Ozario Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann were on the stage. Lorna was honoured on behalf of Mandd Sobhann and Mangalorean Konkany community by Stevan Dias with a Shawl, flowers, fruits and a Momento. Titus Noronha was the Master of Ceremony of the stage function.
