| Film bazaar between November 25 and 29 to promote Indian shooting locales |
PANAJI: Over 200 films will be screened at the 10-day 36th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held here from November 24.
Around 300 delegates, including film personalities, representatives of film organisations, film critics and journalists are expected to attend it.
Unveiling the programme of the IFFI, Sanjit Rodrigues, Chief Executive Officer of Goa Entertainment Society, the State Government-owned body co-ordinating the event, said a jury has been constituted under the chairmanship of award winning director from Chile Miguel Littin with Alain Cornea (film director, France), Saeed Akhtar (film director, India), Faramarz Gharibian (film actor, Iran), Sabine Derflinger (film director, Austria) as its members.
In the cinema of the world section, about 45 films from around 35 countries produced in last two years and having won international awards or earned critical acclaim will be screened.
Tribute
In the tribute (foreign) section, a tribute to Ismail Merchant of Merchant-Ivory Productions is planned whereas the homage section will pay tributes to two veteran film actors who passed away this year Sunil Dutt and Gemini Ganesh. The films to be screened are Reshma aur Shera and Parthiban Kanavu.
Another 20 feature and 15 non-feature Indian Panorama films will be screened. The feature film jury is headed by filmmaker M.S. Sathyu, while the non-feature films jury is headed by veteran film director Aribam Shyam Sharma.
The Indian panorama section will open with Daivanamathil (Malayalam), directed by Jayaraj, while the opening film of the non-feature section will be The Jaws of Death directed by Gautam Saikia. The jury has decided that Perumazhakkalam (Malayalam) directed by Kamal, and Iqbal (Hindi) directed by Nagesh Kukunoor will represent India in the competition section.
The Indian mainstream section will have a collection of about 12 best popular feature films as recommended by the Film Federation of India while in the Indian retrospective section, a series of five to six classics by director Hrishikesh Mukherjee displaying the narrative style of film making which he worked on, will be screened.
The special section, among others, will have NFA Gold featuring films that have won President's gold medal, and will feature Shyamchi Aai (1953) and Mirza Ghalib (1954).
The preliminary budget for the IFFI will be Rs. 3 crores, Mr. Rodrigues said. He said a film bazaar will be set up on the premises of the IFFI between November 25 and 29 to promote Indian shooting locales, marketing Indian films abroad, promoting India as a post production hub and to enable networking opportunities. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) will coordinate the bazaar.
