Jason D'Cruz 15-yr old Goan-American To Present Research Paper at International Artificial Intelligence Conference
Cocoa Beach, FL. October 15, 2005. Fifteen-year old Goan-American Jason Paul D'Cruz, a tenth grader in the International Baccalaureate program at Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School in Cocoa Beach, Florida will be presenting a research paper based on his science research project at the Indian International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Pune, India, Dec 20-22, 2005. This peer-reviewed paper is titled "Using Chaos and Complexity Theory and the Design of Experiments to Forecast Stock Prices - Tools of Artificial Intelligence". The paper was selected for presentation and publication in the conference proceedings because of its radically different approach to forecasting Next-Day Stock Prices and the high level of accuracy resulting from the method. Jason has been working on stock market-related science research projects for the past three years, with assistance from faculty advisors at Florida Tech, who have co-authored the paper. His research interests include the Strategies and Tactics of Billionaires, Using Chaos and Complexity Theory to beat the stock market and Using Yoga to outperform the competition in basketball. He is a point guard on the Cocoa Beach High School Basketball team and he attended the Point Guard Basketball College in North Carolina this summer. He participates regularly in Florida Tech's K-12 outreach programs and science/engineering camps. He has competed at the State Level in Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Future Problem Solving, Odyssey of the Mind and Science & Engineering Fair competitions. It was an interesting analogy between basketball and the stock market that gave him the breakthrough idea that resulted in this science research project. Playing the stock market is like playing a game of basketball where the players do not know the rules of the game and are playing by rules of different games as a result there is chaos on the court: The Forwards (technical analysts) are playing by the rules of soccer; The Center (rational analyst) is acting like a quarterback and playing by the rules of football; The Guards (defensive, fundamental analysts) are playing by the rules of hockey. Everyone knows that the goal of the game is to score baskets and win (make money), not lose and defend (not lose money). However no one knows the rules in this game of basketball and everyone thinks they know how to play the game. As a result there is chaos on court and in the stock market. Some of the players have made some moves and have succeeded in scoring a few baskets, but it has been a chaotic, low scoring game with referees blowing the whistle all the time. This was the way the Jason found the stock market when he began his research Chaotic Everyone he asked (advisors, consultants, family friends) always thought they knew some aspects of how the stock market works, gave some advice or two but no one could not really tell whether the Closing Price for a particular stock tomorrow will be lower or higher. That is why Jason took it upon himself to find out the rules of the stock market using the Chaos and Complexity Theory, Technical Indicators and the Design of Experiments methodology. The results were amazing - his model gave him equations (rules of the game) for the Next Day Stock Prices that were over 95% accurate. These rules were different for different stocks and changed every day. "We are very excited to learn about Jason's accomplishment. This is a great honor for Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School. Jason is the son of Dr. Carmo D'Cruz and Sandra D'Cruz, CPA, who currently reside in Indian Harbour Beach, Florida. His younger brother Jonathan (13) too is on the academic honor roll, excels at basketball and in playing the saxophone.
