Jose Anastacio Fernandes, fondly known to all as JuJu from Benaulim, Salcete, Goa, was one of the finest saxophone players Goa produced. It was a big shock to the tiatrist fraternity and Goa on the whole when he suddenly passed away last year. Besides playing saxophone, Juju was an excellent singer. He has produced his own cassettes as well as provided music for dozens of Konkani cassettes. The moment tiatrists knew that Juju was playing for them they would jump with joy because he would not only accompany them in their songs and play on the stage but they would also get to listen to some of his best pieces which he would exhibit during the intermission. He liked music from his childhood and always had a penchant for the western music. He won many awards for his musical talent; among them Flying Film Production best musician for the year 2000, and GULAB award. He was one of the few musicians who knew to read and write music notes - an art which has been on the decline over the years. Here are the lyrics of two of JuJus songs the first one SAUD talks about happy union of two hearts in the sacrament of matrimony in which he wishes all the best to the newly married couple.
The second song MHAKA JIENK ZAI is a tragedy waiting to happen to a newly married couple. I would sum it up by saying: Man proposes; God disposes!
