Goa Sudharop: Hurricanes Katrina & Rita
Dear all
Goa Sudharop update on the two hurricanes based on information we gathered:
1. First the good news. Hurricane Rita (September 2005) did not impact Goans adversely. Except for temporary displacement of some families for a few days and the related inconvenience, no known
severe damage was suffered.
2. Hurricane Katrina (August 2005) caused severe damage and some Goan families were impacted. One Goan family (a senior couple) outside of New Orleans were displaced. We followed up with the
daughter in New York. FEMA and other insurance took care of their needs. Our follow-up with other Goan families showed they mercifully escaped or were out of town when the Hurricane hit. One family was severely impacted and needs your help. Goa Sudharop spoke to Nancy Paes a few weeks ago as her mother (E. Gomes) and siblings were displaced (names disclosed with permission). Goa Sudharop arranged for plane tickets so that the mother and brother could be evacuated to Orlando, Florida. However, in the interim the family arranged plane tickets and needs to be reimbursed.
They are also in need of cash assistance for the ailing mother's medical and day-to-day needs. The mother has no income and is currently looked after by one of her sons and his spouse.
Goa Sudharop has committed a cash donation to this family. In addition, we are asking the Goan public to make a generous cash contribution. Please state on your check or cover letter that it
is for the Gomes family. Please note your donation is cash deductible to US residents. Please check with your employer if they do matching contributions. For more information on employer
matching contributions please email Acaria at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Send donations payable to:

Regards,
Goa Sudharop
