Fate of 686 candidates sealed; counting today

PANJIM, OCT 23 - Elections to the 11 municipal councils in the State received an overwhelming response with 71.88 percent of the voters casting their ballot on Sunday.
Except for a few minor incidents in South Goa, polling was peaceful.
In the North, Pernem recorded the highest voter turnout of 84.3 percent which was followed by Valpoi with 81.6 percent, Bicholim 77.9 percent and 69 percent in Mapusa, as per State election office reports.
In the South, Canacona recorded a voter turnout of 77 percent, Sanguem 75.6 percent, Quepem 72.2 percent, Cuncolim 64 percent, Margao 56.9 percent, Mormugao 59.3 percent and Curchorem-Cacora 72.9 percent.
Meanwhile, the fate of 686 candidates, will be decided when the ballot boxes are opened at 8 am tomorrow.
Counting will be held at the respective mamlatdar offices.
However, in
the case of Margao and Cuncolim, counting will take place at the Multipurpose school hall, Margao, while in Mormugao, counting will take place at the Sports Authority Multipurpose hall.
