With input from MissIndiaUK.com Leicester, UK , November 1: Laura D`Souza, Indian girl, but born and brought up in UK, has been named among the 24 finalists selected for Miss India UK contest - 2005. The finals will be held at Athena, Rutland Street, Leicester, UK Miss India UK The Most glamourous and Prestigious Beauty and Cultural Talent Event of The Year will be taking place on Saturday, November 5, at Athena in Leicester , with the winner winning a trip to Bollywood to represent the UK in the World finals in Mumbai and the enviable opportunity of meeting a large number of Bollywood Film directors and producers face to face, as she competes for the Miss India Worldwide title and crown.
Laura D'Souza, 24-year-old beauty contestant born in Bedford, now living in Southampton, is 5'5" in height. Marketing assistant by profession, Laura's ambition is her own event management company. "My Mother and My Company Director" are the role models, she says. Laura has BA (Hons) Marketing degree and Post Graduate degree in Marketing (B). Earlier she has been awarded by Institute of Marketing for achieving Highest Grade in country in country Talk of The Town Media Ltd is organizing this event. Beautiful girls aged 18 -25 from India are the eligible contestants. 'This is a credible platform for new Asian talent to become real stars, and Miss India UK is a vehicle to propel them into the heart of Bollywood later this year. Amrita Hunjan, Miss India UK 2004, and current reigning Miss India Worldwide from Birmingham from Leeds, is now in the new girl pop group 'Rouge' and currently negotiating a role in a Bollywood movie herself. 'Being part of the Miss India UK event is a great experience, and a massive confidence-booster. I am looking forward to crowning the this year's winner with the hope that she will keep the Worldwide Crown in the UK,' says Amrita.
Miss India UK was established in 2001 and has quickly established itself as the most glamorous and prestigious Asian talent of the year and highest profile event of its kind, providing a platform for new Asian talent. Amrita Hunjan, current Miss India UK is now a singer with girl band Rouge and is now in talks with a Bollywood producersto star in a Bollywood movie. Aruna Murthy has gone on to become one of the UK's most successful runway models and has recently starred in a Hollywood movie. Priya Kaur Jones, from Nottingham, is now a BBC TV news presenter for East Midlands Today. Last year, BBC BAFTA award winning documentary Onelife 'Bindi's and Beauty Queens' was broadcast on BBC1, covering the trials and tribulations of two finalists. It was a resounding success for the documentary strand and was featured as 'pick of the week' by every Sunday newspaper and on all day-time lifestyle programmes that week.
