Konkani Script Controversy
It is absolutely right that we Goans should have only one script for the Konkani language as this script issue would divide them as it is between two communities the Hindus and Christians. But by simply saying this doesnt mean that we will be united as we have to use this language in our day-to-day life not only while speaking but by also writing and trying to know the vocabulary in Konkani. The government should make a policy as to use this language in their official work.
Efforts should be made to print all paper work in bilingual form that is in Konkani first and then in English. All the name plates of all the shops, offices, organisations should be written in Konkani and English (if required). For the past 43 years no efforts have been made to use this official language. We normally tend to say that the Bhaile have over-powered us in certain areas, then why is it that we have to use the Bhailes language to compete in our own state. Is it that we dont have any confidence in our own language? In every other state the people use their language with pride in day-to-day life.
We saw 35th IFFI for the first time in Goa. We enjoyed the movies but did any Goan see how the I&B Ministry made the banners in bilingual form that is in Hindi first and then in English? That is what is called pride. It needs to come from within. And for that the government should implement the Official Language Act.
