Preparations for Goencho Saib feast in full swing

OLD GOA, NOV 16 The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman is all set to usher in the feast of St Francis Xavier, popularly known as Goencho Saib, on December 3.

Preparations for the feast are in full swing and the huge pandal outside the Bom Jesus Basilica has been set up, where all religious services will be conducted.
OLD GOA, NOV 16 The Archdiocese of Goa and Daman is all set to usher in the feast of St Francis Xavier, popularly known as Goencho Saib, on December 3.
The novena in preparation for the feast commences on November 24 and the theme for the novena
and feast is Families Enlightened And Strengthened By The Eucharist Sent To Build A New Society.
On the occasion of the 5th birth centenary of St Francis Xavier, which falls on April 7, 2006, the novena theme shall try to develop the relationship between the Holy Eucharist and the families in the context of the apostolic service rendered by the Saint to the families under the inspiration of Jesus Christ living in the Holy Eucharist, states a note issued by Rector Fr Savio Barretto.

During the novena, from November 24 to December 2, masses will be celebrated at 6 am, 7 am, 8.15 am (novena mass), 9.30 am, 10.30 am, 3.45 pm, 5.15 pm and 6.15 pm (English).
There will be no 10.30 am mass on November 25, as the Church will celebrate the feast of St Catherine at the Se Cathedral.
On the feast day (December 3), masses will be celebrated at 4 am, 5 am, 6 am, 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 4 pm, 5 pm and 6 pm (English).
The pontifical mass will be celebrated at 10.30 am, for which Sindudurg Bishop Alwyn Barretto will be the main celebrant.
Confessions will be attended on the first floor corridor of the Basilica from 5.30 am to 10.30 am and from 3 pm to 5.30 pm. There will be no confessions on December 3.
Since the Catholic Church has dedicated this year to the Holy Eucharist, the archdiocese will celebrate a solemn mass by Archbishop Emeritus Raul Gonsalves, followed by adoration, procession and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at 3.30 pm on November 23 in the pandal. All selected ushers have been asked to report at the Basilica by 10 am on November 23.
On November 27, there will be an inter-religious prayer meet at 12 pm, for which people of different faiths have been invited to attend.
