| IFFI TO PAY TRIBUTE TO MASTERS | |

| The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2005 is paying a special tribute to Ismail Merchant, Sunil Dutt and Gemini Ganesh who passed away this year. Indian filmmaker Ismail Merchant teamed with James Ivory to produce and direct some of the most remarkable English language films. The festival is screening six films from the wide illustrious repertoire of the late filmmaker. The tribute section will start with Merchants multi award winning first directorial venture In Custody. This 1993 masterpiece was widely acknowledged internationally for strong narrative and powerful performances especially by Shashi Kapoor and Shabana Azmi. Other films of the tribute are Heat & Dust, The Golden Bowl, Howards End, The Remains of the Day and Room with a View. Ismail Merchant died in a London hospital on May 25 this year. Sunil Dutt also breathed his last on the same day in Mumbai. In paying homage to the actor politician Sunil Dutt, the festival will be screening Mujhe Jeene Do a 1963 milestone movie. The festival will also remember veteran Tamil actor Gemini Ganesh by screening his film Parthiban Kanavu. Gemini Ganesh died in Chennai in March this year. RS/DS/AS/22.11/04 / PIB RELEASE |
