Ok, so the issue appears to be the echos?

Weird. Easy enough to test... remove everything but the echos in publish.bat and rerun it against ..\project\jakarta-avalon-site.xml

Echo is supposed to be built into the shell, so I can't imagine why it would be slow.

Is there something unusual about the file system that you are running on?
