Hi,
At the moment I want access to the jakarta group so that I can continue to maintain gump descriptors for projects that I use or depend upon. While it is open to anyone at Apache I don't have access. I believe that even Sam would not be able to say that I have acted badly in anyway in that project.
"even Sam"?
You have been an excellent champion and contributor to Gump. However, this has nothing to do with being in the Jakarta group. One needs only be in the apcvs group. I'll send a note to root to have that done.
Welcome back.
As to whether or not I want to mess around in commons-land. I am lurking on the lists now but to be honest most of the stuff I use from there is already solid or may take some time to jump into.- Sam Ruby
Admittedly I did not like the fact that soft-partitioning occured between projects when the commons project was created. This was mainly as I feared that competing projects would try to mess around with each others dependent components (ie Turbine vs Struts, Maven vs Centipede, etc).
However this has not happen AFAIK and the one thing I have learnt over the last bit is that regardless of whether or not there are rules in place or not you can not protect projects from each other if there is not any respect between developers. I don't see a lack of respect in commons-land so I guess my fears where not grounded.
