Thanks. Good to know I'm in the ballpark anyways. Any clues about power lines? street-level or higher?
Hm. Found a number -- it appears that a standard circuit breaker is 15 amps (1650W). That's what you can draw from an ordinary plug in a home without blowing the circuit breaker.
A typical home might be capable of a total of 100A, however (11,000W). That's what you could draw from the line leading in from the street. Larger buildings will be capable of several times that.
Power substations vary quite a bit, from a few tens of kilowatts up to a couple megawatts for large area substations in europe; typical electric power requirements are on the order of a kilowatt per person for a city, I believe.
