Delgado Monolith XL v1.0 (GURPS Traveller TL8) Copyright 2006 by Onno Meyer Some planets are good for little but open pit mining. To make this as efficient as possible, Delgado is building the Monolith XL and the even larger Monolith XXL. The Monolith XL is smaller than a starship, but it certainly looks more massive than a Scout/Courier or even a Free Trader. The Monolith XL is 9 m tall and more than 20 m long. Each of the four wheels has a diameter of over 4 m. The cargo bed dwarfs the cab and the engine/transmission, despite the fact that the truck has ample room for three and a 10-MW fission power plant mounted between the wheels. The truck can carry 900 cubic meters of payload. The mass is limited by the local gravity, the suspension and the road conditions. At one G, the Monolith can carry 1,000 tons over a salt flat or a firm road, but only 100 tons through soft sand or a swamp. Subassemblies: Body +7, four off-road Wheels +6. Structure is extra-heavy and standard. Improved suspension and brakes, all-wheel steering. Body armor is standard metal. Waterproofed. Computerized controls. Empty weight is 100 tons. The TL8 vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [2nd edition, 3rd printing, Dec 2004 errata], VXi and VXii (the armor volume rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite. The Traveller rules affect the background but not the technology of this design.
