This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. With a slight delay, old vehicles appear
at http://omeyer.gmxhome.de/GURPSnet_files/summary.html

SpinDevCorp LifeFlyer Floatplane v1.0 (Late TL6)
  Copyright 2006 by Onno Meyer

Many startup colonies are unable to afford contragrav ambulances, yet
settlements on frontier worlds can be far apart. The SDC LifeFlyer is a
low-tech solution to the problem, a prop-driven floatplane.
In the basic configuration, the LifeFlyer carries a pilot, two medics,
and a patient on a stretcher. The patient can be reached in flight from
the two rear seats, or by standing on the left aluminum float. The rest
of the airframe is a fabric-covered steel frame, but well streamlined.
At a routine travel speed of 80 mph, the engine burns 10 gallons of
aviation gas per hour. A full load of fuel is $40.

Subassemblies: Body +3, two STOL wings +2, two Pontoons +2.
Powertrain: 200-kW aerial propeller; 200-kW turbocharged HP gas engine;
  200-kWs lead-acid batteries.
Fuel: 100 gallons aviation gas (fire 15).
Occ: 1 RCS, 2 RS. Cargo: 7.5 cf.

Design Notes
Body is 300 cf with good streamlining. Wings are 40 cf each. Pontoons
are 60 cf each. Structure is extra-light, expensive. Armor is non-rigid
for Body and Wings, advanced metal for Pontoons. Mechanical controls.
Waterproofed. There are 45.705 cf of empty space in the body. Empty
weight is 2,400 lbs.
The late TL6 vehicle uses the design rules from GURPS Vehicles [2nd
edition, 3rd printing, Dec 2004 errata] with some optional rules from
VXi and VXii. The stall speed is calculated according to VE133 rather
than the more realistic optional rule on VXii30 to compensate for the
unrealistic low water speed of seaplanes - the errors cancel out.

Next Week: A TL9 tank as sparring partner for Gareth's Terran Union.
