This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or
later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de

Anachronistic SAM TELAR v1.0 (TL6)
  Copyright 2007 by Onno Meyer

In some alternate history stories, one side finds efficient uses for
historical technologies. In other novels, genuine time travelers bring
modern concepts with them. This SAM transporter, erector, launcher and
radar vehicle carries three radio-guided anti-air missiles.
1940s-era technology does not allow homing missiles, so the radar is
used to provide targeting information for command-guided missiles with
a radar proximity fuse to increase the hit probability. The driver and
commander sit in front of the tracked vehicle and the gunner and radar
operator sit in a compartment below the missile rack. Once the TELAR is
used in combat, an arms race between the guidance radios and radars and
electronic countermeasures is likely to follow. A commando or espionage
game might focus on recovering the new radio frequencies just before a
thousand bomber raid.
At routine travel speed, the engine burns 6.4 gallons of diesel per
hour and the APU uses 0.4 gallons per hour. A tank of fuel is $48 and
three missiles are $138,000 ... more than the TELAR itself.
