This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on a website or the like. My site is down for rebuilding, but sooner or later the old stuff should reappear at omeyer.gmxhome.de Onno Meyer, 2007-11-18
Hybrid Starship v1.0 (TL8/12) Copyright 2007 by Onno Meyer Many science fiction backgrounds mix near future technology with a few breakthroughs to allow interstellar travel. The craft described here has a contragrav unit, a STL engine, and a FTL engine, all violating physics as we know it, and an optimistic power cell. The Hybrid Starship transports 3,200 tons of cargo, 1,800 colonists or steerage passengers, and 200 crew. It has four main decks, with quarters on the upper deck, engines and life support on the lower deck, and cargo in between. When the ship sets down on a rough airfield, the shuttle bay becomes an access ramp to the main cargo hold. In a game, the design of the Hybrid Starship can be used for a rough estimate of the transport costs to a colony world, $200 per person per parsec or $100 per ton per parsec. A full load of provisions is $1,800,000. Subassemblies: Body +10. Powertrain: TL12 2,000,000-lb. vectored reactionless thruster; TL12 10,000-ton hyperdrive; TL12 30,000,000-lb. contragrav generator; 160,000-kW experimental fusion reactor; 3,600,000,000-kWs rechargeable power cell. Empty weight is 12,500,000 lbs. The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [2nd edition, 3rd printing, Dec 2004 errata], VXi and VXii (including the armor volume rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite. All components except for those listed as TL12 are TL8. Next Week: The supporting shuttle. _______________________________________________ GurpsNet-L mailing list <[email protected]> http://mail.sjgames.com/mailman/listinfo/gurpsnet-l
