The 1d+1 pi listed in the tables is for 00 buckshot, with slugs being 5d pi++. Converting back using the MP rules on pp 172-3 & the damage conversion box on p 166, 9 projectiles from a 5d weapon is 5*.33=1.65 which works out to 2d-1 pi. Also, if we go by the rules for solid ammo on p166, slugs for 20ga smokeless powder shotguns are going to be 5d pi++ as well. Using the close range rules from Basic p409, minus the DR multiplication, gives better results.
I think that this is the difference between actual guns using RL stats, and the generic rule for deriving multishot rounds for weapons that don't normally use them.
