Of course getting title to the land is much, much easier if it is raw and untamed, and legal systems can be designed from the ground up with modern requirements in mind. Silly and not so silly lawsuits come up when circumstances change and the law has to fit them into established precedent because new legislation isn't forthcoming. For starters, a colony might lay a surveying grid over the world and reserve 'infrastructure rights of way' between 'claimable plots'.
