What if it hit directly on a polar ice cap, causing all the ice to melt?

I used that scenario in my PhantaSea game. On an alternate Earth,
around 1420 AD, there came 3 "Prophets" to the leaders of Europe
foretelling of a large meteor that would strike the Earth and cause
massive flooding in 100 years time. Whatever they said, they
convinced enough of the leaders to adapt their plan to save a portion
of the people. They started growing special crystals imported from
"elsewhere". These crystals when properly harvested create a natural
anti-gravity field.

Fast forward a hundred years. The meteor hits right on schedule. The
arctic ice cap is completely melted flooding the entire world. Eight
great flying cities are raised just prior and though they take damage,
the cities are relatively intact.

Now you've got giant floating cities, normal sailing ships fitted with
crystals which let them fly through the air... enter the PCs ship....
the flying-teleporting-pirate-ship-from-hell, PhantaSea.
