I did a quick diagram of how many designs I would need to fully fill out
the armory ( 3 factions with 3 major manufacturing companies each, about 6
military roles to be filled, with value line, normal line, and premium
lines available from each company). The total came to about 45 designs.
Too many for me to reasonably do without any intention of using it. But
since this is just an experiment I don't feel I actually need to fill the
whole line.
One a week, and you're done in less than a year. But it goes
faster than that if there are massive similarities.
It seems to me that the premium line of military vehicles would be very
similar to standard, but with the more expensive parts. A higher
powered engine, a better computer, higher skill software, more powerful
radar, more expensive missiles or ammunition.
Some of the premium equipment may even be +TL. I also seem to recall an
optional rule (in Pyramid maybe) for 1/2 TL advances that provide a
benefit halfway to +1 TL. I would think most governments would make +TL
research advances into military secrets, not for resale. An arms
company might sell it anyway for enough money. Each faction might have
one technology area a +TL advantage.
That would make the vehicle designs pretty easy. It would be the same
design but with a few upgraded parts and a much higher cost.
