If you're going for a generation ship, consider the Habitat modules
from VX2 (I think). You might even go with a small metallic asteroid
reshaped into a hollow cylinder: sure, it's a significant amount of
mass; but it's also a wide-open space, which will benefit the
colonists.
Those modules are from GURPS Traveller, IIRC, not part of the
official Vehicles 'canon' ...
I don't have the book on hand; but I'm pretty sure that habitat
modules appeared in one of the Vehicles Expansions. I'm also pretty
sure that they _didn't_ appear in GURPS Traveller; they don't fit the
setting all that well.
the Original source of the habitat/factory/farm/etc big modules
was a "GURPS Vehicles Designer's Notes" article by the author David L.
Pulver from the Pyramid magazine, way back when the Pyramid was
still being published in a physical form - Issue number 22
November/December 1996 on page 14 (yep, I am holding an actual
physical Pyramid magazine while I am writing this.. ;) Since
these modules are 'outtakes' from the original GURPS Vehicles
2nd edition book which did not fit into the final edit, I'd say
that this is as close to canonical as you can get outside the main
V2nd book.
Another later and somewhat different version of these modules can
also be found in GURPS Space 3rd edition revised, on page 125.
I hope this information is of any help.

"Our ship is made out of darkness, she mocks the laws of nature.
With cables, ropes, tackle and sails, she moves on the waves
of the void. On her decks a red crew, dark as if painted with
blood. From among the hooded cloaks of crimson, eyes of
silver gleam darkly.. Oldest of all is Hiram of Malta, the Red
Commander. He knows the secrets of Schwarzchild Radii, of Neutron
Stars and Cepheids. His hidden paths we follow, like ghosts from
space we strike deep, only to disappear again soon, sometimes even
the fear itself is afraid of us.."
