This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

The 'double issue' of this week presents the same ship twice, once as
a Vehicles design and once with the Spaceships rules. The twin versions
are not interchangeable in the same game, but they have a similar look
and feel in both systems.
300-ton Streamlined Hyperfreighter v1.0 (TL10)
Copyright 2009 by Onno Meyer
This starship uses one obvious violation of physics as we know it (the
hyperdrive) and a few less obvious ones to allow interstellar travel and
adventures. The freighter is streamlined for planetary landings to avoid
any dependence on orbital transfer stations or shuttles.
The freighter can transport 90 tons of cargo and up to twenty crew and
passengers. The typical complement are a master, a mate, two helmsmen, a
purser, four engineers and a medic. That leaves room for ten passengers.
In space, the ship rotates for a modest 0.03 G, which helps with life
support, cleaning and maintenance. She has two x-ray lasers, supposedly
for asteroid and pirate defense.
The fusion rockets use 400 gallons of reaction mass per minute. A full
load of provisions is $18,000.
Subassemblies: Body +7, twelve retractable wheels +3.
Powertrain: Three 400,000-lb. vectored fusion rockets; 750-ton

Design Notes
Body is 30,000 cf, with very good streamlining and lifting body.
Wheels are 1,500 cf, retract into Body. Structure is heavy, standard.
Armor is standard composite. Sealed. Computerized controls with
duplicate maneuver controls. 385 cf of empty space. Empty weight is
240,000 lbs.

300-ton Streamlined Hyperfreighter, Spaceships Version v1.0 (TL10^)
Copyright 2009 by Onno Meyer
This starship uses one obvious violation of physics as we know it (the
hyperdrive) and a few less obvious ones to allow interstellar travel and
adventures. The freighter is streamlined for planetary landings to avoid
any dependence on orbital transfer stations or shuttles.
The freighter can transport 74 tons of cargo and up to twenty crew and
passengers. The typical complement are a master, a mate, two helmsmen, a
purser, four engineers and a medic. That leaves room for ten passengers.
The freighter has a 300-ton (SM+7) streamlined hull.
Systems Table
Front Hull System
[1] Nanocomposite Armor (dDR 10).
[2] Habitat (2 cabins).
[3-4] Habitat (2 bunkrooms each).
[5] Cargo (15 tons capacity).
[6!] Tertiary Battery (two fixed mounts with 3MJ UV Lasers, 14
tons cargo).
[core] Control Room (C7 computer, comm/sensor 6, and 3 control
stations).
Central Hull System
[1] Nanocomposite Armor (dDR 10).
[2!] Stardrive Engine (FTL-1).
[3] Fusion Reactor (provides two power points).
[4-6] Cargo (15 tons capacity each).
[core] Fuel Tank (15 tons of hydrogen providing 15 mps).
Rear Hull System
[1] Nanocomposite Armor (dDR 10).
[2-4] Fusion Torches (0.5 G acceleration each).
[5-6] Fuel Tank (15 tons of hydrogen providing 15 mps each).
Each shift has an officer, a helmsman and an engineer on the bridge,
and a technician in the engine room. Two service crew bring the total
to ten.
