Hum, conspiracy theories aside, but the Allies was badly mauled in the pacific in part due to lack of preparation, real training and ego.. Some still say we knew the Japanese was to attack and to use it as a provocation for war, but so far no real proof has come forward.
The US/allied forces in Phillipines was spanked hard, caught on the ground and mauled.. Amazed McArthur remained in command, other than lack of officers. How long from 1941 to McArthurs return, did the local guerillas fight the war, at a high price.. The Japanese yes had from the start a real logistics problem, but at the first they used it, cause most of the allies thought in logistics and did not think that a force like the Japanese could do anything, let alone do all it did. Much like later ego issues in Vietnam/Indochina and under playing the abilties of the locals.. Singapore, how fast was it taken, when the UK expected it to last how long? Sorry the Allies was undertrained, under equipped and worse of all lead by overly egotistical, much like Africa c.1830 and the Zulu Wars, Afghanistan c.1820.. Just cause they are tribal and do not have current high tech weapons, does not mean they can not win.. Little Big Horn, classic, over confidence of the European in its supposed superiorities, most having little to do with reality.. You can have the highest tech weapons and equipment, but if your leadership is morons, then you pay for their incompentence.. Not listening to your recon does not help much as well. British was lucky that the Indian and Nepalese troops was loyal to their pay masters.. Japanese worked hard to buy of non-European forces. Most said no to the bribery. But yes, in the end the Japanese lack of logisical train to follow up their fast attacks, was a major failure. It pissed off the locals who got tired of the "We are here to save you our little brothers, from these bad europeans", when it meant more food and more taken by often brutal means (Pillage)!.
