This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Megatransport v1.0 (TL14)
  Copyright 2010 by Onno Meyer

The Megatransport is based on an obsolescent Megafreighter design. She
was modified to carry one million passengers, colonists or refugees over
interstellar distances. The primary scenario are emergency evacuations,
since few paying passengers would accept such cramped conditions.
The ship has a 200m spherical hull with reinforced ventral strakes for
landing. The strakes were used to mount ten big decon airlocks at ground
level. After decontamination, huge lifts lead up to the bunkrooms in the
former cargo holds. The new decks are 2.4m high, which allows the bunks
to be stacked four high. Plastic bulkheads and curtains provide minimal
privacy. Sanitary facilities are distributed so that nobody sleeps more
than 60m from a toilet or shower, and 150 galleys serve the passengers
in shifts.
The transport has a hospital with 40,000 slightly less crowded bunks,
1,000 automeds for intensive care cases, and 2,000 freeze capsules for
patients who can only be revived in a proper planetside facility. Four
hangar decks hold 100 contragrav ambulances each, for medevac directly
to the shipboard hospital.
The permanent crew has slightly better quarters, which is justified by
the fact that they should keep the ship running, not stand in line for a
sandwich or a shower. The bridge has ten officers per shift, plus extra
command and communications teams to coordinate an evacuation and to fly
five fast courier shuttles. 200 technicians run the maintenance robots.
Finally, there are several hundred medics and administrators trained in
emergency operations.

sAccel: 2 G sMR: 2 FTL Speed: 20 x basic FTL factor.

Design Notes
Body is 150,000,000 cf, with underbelly skids. Structure is
extra-heavy, cheap. Armor is cheap metal. Sealed. Computerized controls
with quadruple maneuver controls. 17,905,481 cf of empty space. Empty
weight is 1,750,000,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, January 2007 errata], VXi (including the structural volume
rule) and VXii (including the armor volume rule) with the text format
from Vehicles Lite. The GM should probably set a FTL factor well over
0.2, perhaps in the five figures for intergalactic flights.

Next Week: The basic freighter.
