This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Stopgap Starfighter v1.0 (TL8)
  Copyright 2010 by Onno Meyer

The Stopgap Starfighter was designed for games where mankind feels a
sudden need for combat spacecraft. Perhaps an Alien Starship is coming
to visit, or the Mars Colony is in open rebellion ...
The cockpit has workstations for a pilot, an engineer, and a weapons
officer. The Starfighter has a small living area and an airlock, so it
could be used for contact missions as well, or patrols lasting several
days.
The fighter uses a solid-core thermal nuclear rocket to provide 2 G
acceleration and almost 20 kps delta-V. It has a particle accelerator,
perhaps from a defunct Star Wars program, and a rotary launcher for a
variety of missiles, from 100-kiloton Shipbusters to kinetic missiles
with thousands of steel darts. The hull is strong enough for reentry,
with a RAM coating to make targeting locks more difficult, but there
was no time to develop specialized avionics for space combat.
The fission rockets use 40,000 gallons of reaction mass per hour.

Subassemblies: Body +6, six retractable Wheels +2.
Powertrain: 400,000-lb. fission rocket; 75-kW NPU; 2,560,000-kWs

are 400 cf, retract into body. Structure is light, expensive. Armor is
expensive composite. Sealed. Light tanks. Computerized controls with
triplicate maneuver controls. 89.5 cf of empty space. 10 missiles or
rockets are carried in the body. Empty weight is 120,000 lbs.

rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

Next Week: A submersible aircraft carrier.
