Hey guys and gals,

>From the source material for the Morethans (David Gerrold's Star Wolf
series) the Morethans had bred a special caste of assassins and saboteurs.
They used these against themselves primarily (because the Morethan
leadership is a fiercely competitive, conniving, scheming lot entirely too
smart for their own good) but in some circumstances they would send one on
a mission on a human vessel. Once there the Imp (I believe that was the
official title Gerrold used) would sneak around the ship and circumvent
the various sensors aboard the ship - usually hiding in the air
cleansing/hydroponics sections of the ship and its ducting. The Imps
were much smaller than a human adult and contortionists and could wiggle
and squeeze themselves into all sorts of service spaces to hide and
quietly infiltrate the ships systems and sensors. One of the big missions
in the series was for the Imp hide long enough onboard for the military
ship to return to a secret deep space base for resupply, use the ships
sensors to determine the location of the depot, then later when the ship
was away from the rest of the fleet sabotage the ship to allow the imp to
send the location of the depot back to the Morethan fleet. Ideally the
Imp would also use the ships ventilation or reactor to kill the crew as
well so that the ship could be captured by the Morethan fleet and the Imp
recovered. However the Imps seemed to be determined enough that they
would be willing to kill themselves to take out the ship if they felt
their mission was at risk. So a significant portion of the book was about
a small section of the crew of the ship trying to locate and eliminate an
Imp without tipping their hand that they knew of its presence for fear
that it would simply destroy the ship in various ways.

Hello Mike,

I doubt there is much magic in Clinton's setting. I guess either
a specially breed 'drone' or a specially trained Morethan -- can
they dare to give 'drones' the necessary flexibility to go into
enemy-held places?

Regards,
Onno
