Hello Johannes,

initially I had thought of organic waste (as fertilizer), but you
are right that it also works for other recycling-capable waste. A
ton of assorted electronic junk, another ton of plastic packaging,
and an entire village on a TL5- world to get it all cleaned,
sorted and put into bins.

Of course that scheme requires empty hulls going towards the lower
tech world. If they have something to export (raw materials?) why
can't they import cheap plastic buckets for those credits instead
of even cheaper plastic junk? Unless the incoming freighter brings
one flashy air/raft for all that ore, so the remainder if the hold
is free.

Still, there would be lots of different 'fill up' cargoes that
would never be transported, unless there are free holds going in
the right way.

I guess for large and regular freight, there can be shemes like that the lower tech world exports plastic stuff and imports plastic junk, as rawmaterial to make more plastic exports. Organic waste will definitly need to be transported to Agragrarian worlds, since somehow the food they export needs to come back.

However thoose trades will have only rarely have any direct effects on the classic pc tramp frighters, as long as freight prices work like outlined in Gurps-traveller-Free Trader, since the trampfrighters get mostly freight that is sent on short notice. Garbage will likely not apeare on short notice, and in most cases it can be stored for long times for little cost*. So garbage transports will most likely go to regular lines.

However Tramp frighters might pick up garbage on their own as speculative cargo. It might be worth something as raw materials elsewhere and it is cheap.

* with the exception of high population worlds and worlds with delicate ecosystems there will most likely plenty of space around. And most garbage could even be put into some orbit in containers. Given you will need to transport it outsystem, before it has any value (and likely event there not particulary much) chances that it gets stolen will be low, and thus also costs for security. Still i hope to get some opportunity to confront the players with the accusation, that they have stolen 50 dtons of frozen shit from some orbit.
