This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the
GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial
redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on
a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until
I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these
days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml

Dragon Republic Type 18 Heavy Utility Dropship v1.0 (TL9)
  Copyright 2011 by Onno Meyer

The Type 18 is used to carry heavy equipment from orbiting starships
to the surface of a planet. Her nominal capacity are 160 tons of cargo,
but the real limit is volume -- the Heavy Dropship can lift 300 or 400
tons from an earthlike world, if they fit into the hold.
The Heavy Utility Dropship has an upper deck with the cockpit and the
passenger cabin and a lower deck with the cargo bay. The bay is roughly
30 m long, 5.5 m wide, and 3 m high, with a narrow extension forward to
accommodate long railgun barrels. The Dropship has a single refueling
boom, which can be used with modular tanks in the cargo bay to turn her
into a tanker.
At a first glance, the Type 18 is similar to the Armstrong class used
by the Union. Both have wide bodies, small delta wings, and rough field
wheels. The Armstrong is a little more rugged, and the Type 18 has more
payload and delta-V.
The fusion rockets use 50,000 gallons of reaction mass per hour.

Subassemblies: Body +8, two Wings +4, twenty retractable Wheels +3.
Powertrain: Two vectored 1,250,000-lb. fusion rockets; 100-kW super MHD
fusion reactor; four 270,000-kWs rechargeable power cells.
Fuel: 40,000 gallons water.

Design Notes
Body is 48,000 cf, with superior streamlining. Wings are 1,000 cf.
Wheels are 2,400 cf, retract into body. Structure is heavy, expensive.
Improved suspension and brakes. Armor is expensive composite. Sealed.
Ultra-light, self-sealing tanks. Computerized controls with duplicate
maneuver controls. 3,563 cf of empty space. Empty weight is 340,000 lbs.
The vehicle uses the design rules from Vehicles [second edition, third
printing, December '09 errata], VXi and VXii (including the armor volume
rule) with the text format from Vehicles Lite.

Next Week: A TL15 transport.
