This is a weekly posting with GURPS vehicles (and the like) to the GURPSnet mailing list. I grant the permission for all non-commercial redistribution of my work, but I would like to know if you put it on a website or the like. The files at omeyer.gmxhome.de are down until I fix the automatic PDF generation, which should be one of these days - see sourceforge.net/projects/gurpsml Onno Meyer, 2013-02-11
Steam Ladder v1.0 (TL5) Copyright 2013 by Onno Meyer As engineers and architects use steam power and steel girders to drive buildings higher and higher, the fire departments have to keep up. Enter the Steam Ladder, a steam-powered fire engine with an telescope ladder on a turntable. The front section of the articulated truck holds the engine, a driver, a stoker, and eight firemen. The rear mounts the ladder, which consists of six telescoping sections, and two more firemen. One of them controls the rotation and elevation of the ladder, the other uses a system of gears and pulleys to extend it. At routine speed, the engine burns 2.6 cf (130 lbs.) of coal per hour. A full load is $12. Subassemblies: Articulated Body +4, six Heavy Wheels +1, full-rotation Open Mount +3. Powertrain: 52-kW wheeled drivetrain; 52-kW triple-expansion steam engine. Fuel: 12 cf coal.
